One With Nature
We deeply value and respect the environment. That’s why we use eco-friendly cleaning products and are committed to reducing plastic waste wherever possible. We’ve eliminated plastic bin liners in our rooms and bathrooms, providing them only upon request.
As proud partners of Surfrider, a global organization dedicated to cleaning our oceans and raising awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastics, we continue our efforts toward sustainability. The owners even spearheaded the ‘Strawless in BC’ campaign in 2017, leading the movement to remove plastic straws across the province. Beyond our environmental efforts, we are dedicated to making a positive impact on our community by supporting local charities and events.
History of the Malahat
The Malahat Chalet, built in 1905, began as a post office and pit stop along the historic Malahat Trail, offering rest for travelers journeying between Mill Bay and Victoria. In the late 1800s, locals believed it was impossible to build a road between these areas, but through determination and perseverance, the Malahat Trail was completed in 1911. Known for its stunning views and treacherous conditions, the Malahat quickly gained fame as a challenging route, with early drivers often pulling logs behind their cars to control speed on the steep descent.
Over the years, the highway has been modernized, making the scenic 15-minute drive through old-growth forests more accessible and beautiful than ever. Today, the Moon Water Lodge and the Malahat Chalet stand proudly near the summit, overlooking the stunning Finlayson Arm. Join us in experiencing over a century of history and the breathtaking views that have captivated visitors for more than 200 years.
